The planetarium has not been updated since the opening in 1971. While the projector technology is operational it is outdated, difficult to use and no longer serviceable.
Modern projector technology has significantly changed the experience and usage for audiences. Digital systems are faster at keeping up with new discoveries and it doesn’t require a technician to operate it.
At present, the planetarium is utilized for geoscience and astronomy classes. The advances in digital technology extends the use beyond astronomy such as biology, social studies, math, art, music, film and more. Teachers and students would have access to the Dome to create and explore immersive content.

Demolition will begin over the winter with the completion in spring 2023.

The campaign goal is $850,000 and will cover the cost to remove the existing dome, install new seamless dome panels, update to digital dual projectors, new LED lighting, upgrade the sound system and replace entire seating.
